Les Cotils is one of Guernsey’s leading events venues and hosts numerous meetings, conferences and training sessions as well as being a popular location for special events such as weddings, social events and parties. Top quality catering is available on-site as well as comfortable accommodation.
Up until the German occupation of the Channel Islands in July 1940, Les Cotils was being run by an order of nuns, primarily as a school. In addition to this, the nuns ran a farm to supply their needs.
As the occupation by German forces began and the children were evacuated, the school changed use and became a hospital home, caring for elderly and infirm patients. Les Cotils was then taken over by the occupying forces for its strategic position. Today, there is still evidence of the German occupation on site, in the form of the remains of gun emplacements and bunkers that the German forces built as part of their air defence system covering the harbour approaches.
The school never re-opened after the war but Les Cotils continued to be run as a hospital home for several years.
Les Cotils stands as a beacon of community spirit, offering a sanctuary of support and serenity. It is more than a facility; it is a haven where island charities and individuals facing challenges find the help they need.
To sustain and nurture this vision, Les Cotils operates with a dual approach. Commercial activities are balanced harmoniously with the invaluable assistance of sponsors, friends, and volunteers whose generosity breathes life into our mission.
